Florida deputy revives 'unresponsive' beachgoer 08.06.2026

On Saturday morning at 10:15 a.m., Volusia County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a distressed swimmer at New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Deputy Gourley located a 68-year-old woman floating face down and unresponsive in the ocean. He pulled her to shore, where she was found without a pulse. Deputies Gourley and Manhart immediately initiated CPR and successfully revived the woman. Beach Safety personnel then arrived, continued life-saving measures, and transported the victim to the hospital in stable condition. The Volusia County Sheriff's Office shared dramatic body camera footage of the rescue and praised the deputies and alert beachgoers involved, announcing forthcoming life-saving awards.
