A severe winter storm has caused widespread disruption across Bavaria and Austria, significantly impacting air travel and road networks. Vienna International Airport advised passengers to avoid coming to the airport due to the conditions, and the southern ring road around Vienna was closed for several hours. In eastern Austria, a snowstorm led to power outages affecting 30,000 households in Styria, and a man died during snow removal operations in Linz. Western Austria also experienced heavy snowfall, resulting in a serious accident in the Tyrolean Ötztal where a car fell 30 meters after colliding with a snowplow, injuring its occupants. Munich Airport reported flight delays and cancellations, with 50 flights already canceled by late morning on February 20, 2026, following 100 cancellations the previous day.
