Former NASA chief takes helm of national security space firm 07.05.2026

Former NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine has been appointed CEO of Quantum Space, a Maryland-based company focused on developing advanced maneuverable spacecraft for national security. Bridenstine, a former naval aviator and member of the House Armed Services Committee, expressed that national security space is a company priority. Quantum Space is developing a spacecraft named Ranger, comparable in size to a Volkswagen Beetle before its solar panels extend, capable of rapid maneuvering across various orbital regimes from low-Earth to cislunar space, utilizing 4,000 kg of hydrazine propellant. Ranger's capabilities, including refueling potential and proprietary multi-mode technology, are intended to meet the US Space Force's demand for enhanced in-space maneuvering. The company's acquisition of Phase Four in September further supports these developments, aligning with projected increases in Space Force funding.
