Guy Lapointe, former Director of Communications for the Sûreté du Québec for 13 years, has announced his intention to run as a candidate for the Parti québécois nomination in the riding of Verchères. This announcement was made during a press conference hosted by PQ leader Paul-St-Pierre Plamondon, who praised Lapointe's public safety experience, particularly his involvement during national tragedies such as the Lac-Mégantic disaster and the Metropolis attack. Lapointe, a resident of Verchères for 21 years and son of hockey player Guy Lapointe, also served as spokesperson for the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes before becoming communications chief for the Montreal Fire Department. General elections are scheduled for the fall of 2026.
