Four Carabineros from Cartagena dismissed for alleged theft of smuggled cigarettes 07.07.2026

The San Antonio Carabineros Prefecture confirmed the dismissal of four officers from the Second Police Station of Cartagena following a serious incident last Saturday. The uniformed officers were dismissed for failing to properly secure evidence from a shipment of smuggled cigarettes. The incident began when a truck transporting the material overturned in the Valparaíso region, leaving the vehicle without occupants or a driver. According to investigations, the officers allegedly stole cigarettes from the container, committing the crime of theft. In response to this situation, the institution reported the incident to the Military Prosecutor's Office and initiated a formal administrative summary. Carabineros emphasized its stance of not tolerating conduct that contravenes institutional doctrine, reaffirming its commitment to integrity and the fulfillment of its duties.
