A floating litter barrier installed on the Garonne River in Blagnac, a suburb of Toulouse, has successfully collected eight tonnes of plastic since September. The barrier, designed by Plastic Vortex, stretches across the river and uses a vortex system to direct litter toward a collection point. A rubber skirt extending 40cm below the waterline blocks debris while allowing kayaks and canoes to pass through gates. Collected material is sorted by hand and recycled through the metropolitan waste management system.
