France's public prosecutor drops drugs probe into far-left MEP 09.04.2026

The Paris Public Prosecutor's office announced on Thursday, April 9, 2026, that it has dropped a preliminary investigation into Rima Hassan, a French far-left Member of the European Parliament, for illegal drug possession. The probe was initiated last week after police found Hassan in possession of cannabidiol (CBD) and a substance suspected to be the designer drug 3-MMC. Hassan had previously denied illegal possession, stating she uses CBD for medical reasons. The prosecutor's office concluded that the investigation did not reveal a "sufficiently substantiated offense." Separately, Hassan is scheduled to face trial in July for a comment made on X regarding a 1970s attack on an Israeli airport.
