Ahead of the 51st César Awards ceremony on February 28th, approximately 4,000 French actors, actresses, and filmmakers have signed a public statement denouncing the "systematic pillage" of their voices and images by artificial intelligence (IA). The signatories, including prominent figures like Franck Dubosc, Gérard Jugnot, and Karin Viard, express concern over the "brutal competition" IA poses to their profession, citing the widespread cloning of voices without consent and the pressure on less established artists to cede rights. They are calling for the establishment of a legal framework to ensure IA can coexist with artistic work while respecting copyright and neighboring rights, highlighting recent incidents like the alleged copyright violations by Chinese software Seedance 2.0 and a viral AI-generated video featuring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.
