Frank Mansro, 'buurtvader' uit De Pijp, overleden op 78-jarige leeftijd 04.03.2026

Frank Mansro, a beloved figure in Amsterdam's De Pijp district and owner of the café bearing his name, passed away at 78 due to cardiac arrest. Originally from Paramaribo, Suriname, Mansro arrived in the Netherlands in 1975 and eventually became the proprietor of his café in 1991, transforming it into a community hub. Known for his warm, open nature and dedication to preserving the café's traditional character amidst gentrification, Mansro was also active as a radio maker, chairman of the Kwaku Festival's stallholder association, and a candidate for the Humanistische Partij in the 2006 municipal elections. He is remembered by patrons and family as a "buurtvader" who fostered connection and conversation, and his legacy will continue to live on in the Pijp. His farewell will be held next Monday at De Nieuwe Ooster cemetery.
