Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Tinubu to direct the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to release former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, arguing that Tinubu’s intervention in the Osun State account freeze case demonstrates his ability to control anti-corruption agencies. In a statement issued Thursday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku asserted that Tinubu’s order to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to vacate the freeze on Osun’s government account has dismantled the long-standing claim that such agencies operate independently of the presidency.
