Free electricity proposed for village in east of france 04.06.2026

The village of Montigny-en-Arrouaise in eastern France, led by its ecologist mayor Christophe Parent, is expanding its renewable energy initiatives by proposing the installation of two wind turbines to further reduce electricity costs for its 290 residents. Previously, solar panels were installed on school and municipal buildings, as well as for eight low-income households, at a cost of €150,000, with 80% funded by the state. On sunny days, electricity produced is free for the commune and these households, significantly cutting the commune's electricity bill by half to €3,000 annually and largely covering the repayment of a €24,000 loan. Additionally, the village offers three free EV charging points for residents.
