SC Freiburg coach Julian Schuster views the upcoming DFB-Pokal semi-final against VfB Stuttgart on April 21st or 22nd as an opportunity to "process the trauma" of their 2013 semi-final exit at the same venue. In that 2013 match, Freiburg lost 1-2 to Stuttgart, with Schuster and current Freiburg defender Matthias Ginter playing in midfield. Ginter, now 32, humorously noted the difficulty of them playing together in midfield again, given Schuster's age and his own defensive role. Freiburg, who last reached the final in 2022, losing to RB Leipzig on penalties, aims to advance to the final in Berlin on May 23rd. The other semi-final will feature Bayer Leverkusen against FC Bayern Munich.
