French star Wembanyama leads Spurs into NBA finals showdown with Knicks 03.06.2026

French phenom Victor Wembanyama, the 22-year-old MVP of the Western Conference series and unanimous Best Defender of the Year, is set to lead the San Antonio Spurs against the New York Knicks in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday. The Spurs, who last reached the Finals in 2014, secured their spot by winning 62 regular-season games and defeating the Portland Trail Blazers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Oklahoma City Thunder in the playoffs. The Knicks, making their first Finals appearance since 1999, advanced by overcoming the Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, and Cleveland Cavaliers, and are pursuing their first championship since 1973. The best-of-seven series will commence in San Antonio before shifting to New York.
