Friends and colleagues gathered at the Anglo Gold Ashanti Joburg Zoo headquarters on Thursday to honor the memory of Baldwin Ndaba, a former Independent Media journalist who passed away on May 22, 2026, following a brief illness. Ndaba, remembered as an activist, Pan Africanist, and a courageous yet ethical veteran, was laid to rest in Kimberley on May 30. His career was marked by an unwavering dedication to storytelling and a profound love for reading, deeply influenced by his newspaper-loving father. Speakers at the memorial service, including former colleagues Themba Sepotokele and Lebogang Seale, emphasized Ndaba's integrity, professionalism, and leadership qualities. City of Joburg officials, Mayor Dada Morero and Speaker Margaret Arnolds, also paid tribute to his role as a chronicler of times and a diligent observer committed to truth and accountability.
