From 3:2:1 to 4:2:2:2:1: What is now changing regarding the 'Pickerl' 03.07.2026

The Transport Committee has passed a comprehensive amendment to the Motor Vehicles Act with a broad majority, providing for significant changes to vehicle inspections, autonomous driving, and charging infrastructure. The centerpiece of the reform is the extension of the 'Pickerl' (inspection sticker) intervals from the previous 3:2:1 rule (three years after first registration, two years after the first inspection, then annually) to the new 4:2:2:2:1 regulation. In the future, car owners will only need to bring their vehicle for inspection four years after first registration, followed by three extensions of two years each, before annual inspections begin. Transport Minister Peter Hanke (SPÖ) emphasized that the extension of the intervals will benefit hundreds of thousands of people.
