Fuel issues for the upcoming winter discussed at the Riga Castle 13.07.2026

On Monday, July 15, a meeting was held at the Riga Castle between President Edgars Rinkēvičs and the Minister of Climate and Energy Jānis Vitenbergs, focusing primarily on preparations for the upcoming heating season and the security of critical energy infrastructure. The Minister informed the President about efforts to stabilize the fuel market, including meetings with representatives from the pellet industry. Vitenbergs called on producers to join a voluntary initiative aimed at ensuring sufficient pellet volumes for the Latvian market, a transparent pricing policy, and the prioritization of local market needs. In the near future, the Minister will meet with the state-owned enterprise "Latvijas valsts meži" to discuss opportunities to promptly ensure fuel resource supplies to these producers.
