Fuel rationing scheme not considered amid oil price shocks — DOE 5h ago

The Philippine Department of Energy (DOE) has stated that it is not considering a fuel rationing scheme, despite calls from Senator Sherwin Gatchalian to explore this possibility amid rising global oil prices driven by Middle East tensions. Garin, the Energy Secretary, explicitly denied any discussion or consideration of rationing, emphasizing that such a measure is not imminent. Gatchalian, who chairs the Senate Committee on PROTECT, had proposed rationing as a means to conserve the country's fuel supply and prevent hoarding during the ongoing crisis, suggesting it could remain in effect until supply stabilizes. Meanwhile, motorists can anticipate a rollback in pump prices next week, with estimated reductions of P5.50 to P6.50 per liter for diesel and potentially P1.00 per liter for gasoline, following a series of significant price hikes since February.
