« Ils portent atteinte à la stabilité des institutions » : le Gabon suspend l’utilisation des réseaux sociauxà 01h38 18.02.2026

The Gabonese High Authority of Communication (HAC) has announced the immediate and indefinite suspension of social media networks across the country, citing concerns over "conflict-generating drifts." This decision comes amidst President Brice Oligui Nguema's first significant social challenge, a teachers' strike ongoing for over a month in some areas. The HAC stated that inappropriate, defamatory, hateful, and injurious content circulating online risks undermining human dignity, public morals, citizens' honor, social cohesion, institutional stability, and national security. The authority also expressed worry about the spread of misinformation, cyberbullying, and unauthorized disclosure of personal data, while lamenting the platforms' perceived indifference and lack of effective content moderation.
