Gasspeicher in Deutschland Warum der Gasnotstand nicht kurz bevorsteht 20.02.2026

Despite widespread claims on social media, including from prominent figures like Sahra Wagenknecht, that Germany is on the brink of a gas emergency, official sources and experts assert that the situation is stable. While current gas storage levels are lower than in previous years, standing at 21.64% on February 18th compared to 39.34% last year, experts like Jochen Linßen from FZJ state that existing capacities are sufficient for two to three months under current import and demand conditions. Franziska Holz from DIW emphasizes that Germany's gas supply relies on imports and domestic production, not solely on storage, and that short-term imports from the US are readily available, reflected in stable global market prices. The Frühwarnstufe (early warning level) is currently active, but this has no consequences for consumers, and the Bundesnetzagentur confirms that gas supply security is guaranteed.
