Gelenkersatz Neue OP-Technik für Knieprothesen 22.02.2026

A new surgical technique for knee prostheses is shifting away from the decades-old standard of correcting leg misalignments to achieve a perfectly straight leg axis. Previously, this straight alignment was prioritized for prosthesis longevity due to material limitations. However, advancements in materials now allow for the implantation of knee prostheses that preserve the patient's natural leg axis, aiming to restore the knee to its state at age 20. This individualized approach, facilitated by robotic-assisted surgery that precisely accounts for ligament tension, allows for corrections of only wear-induced deviations. Patient Horst Siemers, who had an eleven-degree bowleg corrected to five degrees, reports excellent mobility and equal weight distribution on his operated leg, highlighting the potential benefits of this personalized method, though research continues on optimal angles and long-term outcomes.
