Gen Khan warns police raid data leak could threaten undercover operatives 03.06.2026

Maj-Gen Feroz Khan, deputy head of Crime Intelligence within the South African Police Service (SAPS), has filed an urgent application in the Johannesburg high court seeking the preservation of electronic devices seized from his home on Sunday, May 10. The raid, conducted by approximately nine armed members, resulted in the seizure of cellphones, an iPad, voice recording devices, a firearm, magazines, and ammunition, despite Khan being told the search was for drugs, none of which were found. Khan alleges the search and seizure were unlawful and unconstitutional, as no warrant was produced at the time, and an inventory was not provided. He now fears the data, containing sensitive operational and intelligence-related information, could be compromised, potentially threatening national security and leading to the assassination of undercover operatives if accessed or disseminated. The seized items have since been transferred to the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, further complicating Khan's ability to ascertain their status and prevent potential irreversible damage. Khan faces charges of illegal precious metals dealing and defeating the ends of justice, related to a gold bust incident, alongside Maj-Gen Ebrahim Kadwa.
