In a significant development for the World Cup, FIFA has suspended the one-game ban previously issued to United States striker Folarin Balogun. This decision allows the prolific scorer, who has netted three goals during the tournament, to participate in the upcoming Round of 16 match against Belgium. The reversal follows an intervention by President Donald Trump, who contacted FIFA President Gianni Infantino to request a formal review of the red card issued to Balogun for a foul during the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Instead of serving the immediate suspension, the FIFA disciplinary committee ruled that the striker will instead undergo a one-year probationary period. The Royal Belgian Football Association expressed astonishment regarding this ruling and stated they are currently investigating all potential options to ensure that the principles of fair play are strictly upheld throughout the competition.
