Gewaltige Lawine donnert in Italien-Skigebiet vom Berg: Schneewolke überrascht Skifahrer – Panik bricht aus 19.02.2026

On Tuesday afternoon, February 18th, a massive avalanche descended from the Mont Blanc in Italy's Aosta Valley, specifically in Val Veny above Courmayeur. Spectacular video footage captured the event, showing a large snow cloud engulfing dozens of skiers, including children, on the blue Zerotta piste near a ski lift. Many skiers were caught by surprise as the approaching snow mass was initially obscured by a nearby forest. While no one was reported buried, individuals were caught by the snow cloud's periphery, prompting a search by rescue dogs as a precaution. This incident occurs amidst heightened avalanche danger across the Alps, with recent fatal avalanches reported near Courmayeur and in the French and South Tyrolean Alps, leading authorities to issue strong warnings and advise skiers to stay on marked slopes.
