Ghana has launched a new chip-embedded passport, replacing the 2010 biometric version, with over 100 security features, including nanotechnology and RFID technology, to enhance security and combat fraud. The standard application fee has been reduced to GH₵350, with processing within 15 working days, and an expedited 24-hour service is available for GH₵2,000. The Ghanaian passport is ranked 68th globally, providing access to 67 destinations. To foster regional integration, Ghana introduced a free e-visa policy for all African passport holders, effective May 25, 2026. Mass issuance of the new passport began on April 28, 2025, with a goal to modernize acquisition and improve service delivery nationwide, including the establishment of application centers in all 16 regions.
