Giftige stoffen in koptelefoons en oordopjes, winkels halen producten uit handel 23.02.2026

Webshops are removing headphones and earbuds from sale following a large European Union-funded study that found harmful chemicals, including bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates, in all 81 tested products. While researchers state there is no acute danger, prolonged exposure to these substances, commonly found in plastics and plasticizers, poses risks to public health, particularly with frequent use. HEMA has temporarily halted sales of a specific Nijntje headphone, and Bol.com has removed products with overall insufficient scores, offering free returns for items purchased in the last six months. Coolblue and Mediamarkt are also removing the most severe cases from their assortments, while Action has not yet removed the implicated OTL Technologies Super Mario earbuds. Toxicologists suggest current exposure levels are unlikely to cause immediate problems but advise further research.
