Google and Intel deepen AI infrastructure partnership 09.04.2026

Google and Intel have solidified a multiyear partnership, extending Google Cloud's use of Intel's AI infrastructure, particularly its Xeon processors, including the new Xeon 6 chips, for AI, cloud, and inference operations. This collaboration, building on a decades-long relationship, will also see an expansion of their joint development of custom infrastructure processing units (IPUs). These IPUs, designed to enhance data center efficiency by offloading tasks from CPUs, are based on custom ASIC technology and represent a continuation of their chip development efforts initiated in 2021. The expanded deal underscores the increasing industry demand for CPUs, which are vital for running AI models and general AI infrastructure, complementing the role of GPUs in AI model development and training.
