Google commits to replacing more water than its data centers use by 2030 03.06.2026

Google has announced ambitious water stewardship commitments, aiming to replenish more water than its data centers consume by 2030. This initiative, detailed in a recent blog post, includes modernizing water infrastructure and collaborating with local entities on water stewardship projects. By 2030, the company anticipates these projects will replenish over 19 billion gallons of water annually, more than double its 2024 consumption and significantly exceeding the 7 billion gallons replenished in 2025. This commitment addresses growing concerns about the water usage of data centers, which are vital for AI infrastructure but can consume millions of gallons yearly. Google is also investing over $500 million in water infrastructure development and utility partnerships, with an additional $17 million dedicated to specific water stewardship projects in several U.S. states.
