GOP Sen. Bill Cassidy says he lost his temper at Trump in closed-door meeting 25.06.2026

Tensions flared during a rare closed-door meeting between President Donald Trump and Senate Republicans on Capitol Hill Wednesday, with Trump speaking for 75 minutes and facing little pushback from most lawmakers. However, Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, who lost his GOP primary earlier this year after voting to convict Trump over the Jan. 6 insurrection, engaged in a notably heated exchange. Cassidy told reporters he made his frustrations clear, particularly regarding the Iran war, and said Trump "raised his voice" in response. Cassidy acknowledged that he matched the president’s tone, saying, "I lost my temper. That's not appropriate. It's the Irish in me." Other senators described the atmosphere as "very much like a hospital board meeting when a bunch of doctors are yelling at each other," according to Sen. Roger Marshall, a physician. Cassidy also referred to Trump as "brother" instead of "Mr. President," according to Sen. Jim Justice, who noted "they harbor bad feelings."
