Government parties attack Auken: - Absurd and unnecessary 07.07.2026

Minister for Health and Ecclesiastical Affairs Ida Auken (S) has sparked significant political debate after sharing a video on Facebook celebrating the introduction of a permanent chaplain at Christiansborg. The celebration has been criticized by several parties, including the Moderates and the Social Liberal Party, which describe the arrangement as unnecessary. Frida Bruun of the Moderates points out that members of parliament already have access to priests in their own parishes or local areas, and that Christiansborg is not a closed environment. At the same time, SF's Karsten Hønge has directed sharp criticism at Auken's excessive reaction. The case has had noticeable political consequences, as several Social Democrats have left the party as a result of her behavior. The debate illustrates a deep divide regarding the new employee benefits and the manner in which political decisions are celebrated in the Danish Parliament.
