The Malaysian government is exploring the feasibility of using the MyKad identification system for targeted diesel subsidies, mirroring the successful Budi95 program for RON95 petrol. Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan stated that this initiative aims to streamline subsidy distribution, reduce leakages, and achieve savings without significantly impacting consumer spending habits. While the Budi95 program for RON95, which began in October 2025 and involved approximately 17 million users, has shown the potential for organized subsidy delivery, the transition for diesel requires careful logistical and system readiness evaluation nationwide. Particular attention is being paid to regional variations in diesel usage, especially in Sabah and Sarawak, where it is crucial for vehicles, electricity generation, and alternative distribution methods, necessitating a detailed study to ensure uninterrupted supply and avoid obstacles.
