"Grande cause du quinquennat" : pourquoi le traitement des violences faites aux femmes est si critiqué 19.02.2026

France's judicial system faces persistent criticism for its handling of violence against women, marked by low prosecution rates, lengthy delays, and sexist biases. In 2025, 131 women were killed, highlighting the ongoing issue of feminicides. While the number of reported domestic violence victims doubled to over 270,000 in 2024, this rise is partly attributed to increased reporting post-#MeToo. However, only one in six domestic violence victims files a complaint, with 42% of these cases being dismissed. Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin acknowledged these "flaws" on February 19, 2026, promising a new approach to improve coordination and standardize practices, addressing the "crisis of investigation" within law enforcement. Despite these challenges, advancements include the legal definition of rape incorporating non-consent and reduced processing times for domestic violence cases.
