Greggs benches Mexican sandwich range ahead of high-stakes England clash 04.07.2026

Greggs has announced a temporary suspension of its Mexican chicken sandwich range in selected English shops ahead of England's high-stakes Round of 16 match against Mexico. The decision, described by customer director Zoe Harris as a "tactical rotation," includes the removal of the Mexican chicken baguette, oval bite, and flatbread. While these items will be unavailable in England this Sunday, they will remain available in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to accommodate fans with different football loyalties. The match is scheduled for 1am BST at the Estadio Azteca, following a scheduling U-turn regarding weather concerns. Additionally, Prime Minister Keir Starmer has extended pub licensing hours until 5am on Monday to support supporters. The Mexican chicken lineup is expected to return to the Greggs starting menu on Monday morning once the match concludes.
