Guide missing for a week on Mount Everest found alive: "Miracle" 04.06.2026

Dawa Sherpa, a 52-year-old guide missing for a week on Mount Everest, has been found alive, a feat described as a "miracle" by the mountaineering community. He was last seen descending the mountain around May 29 with a client and failed to reach base camp, despite his client doing so. Dawa was discovered crawling near the Khumbu Icefall by a cleaning crew on Thursday morning and has since been transported to HAMS Hospital in Kathmandu, where he is recovering from frostbite. His family had already begun funeral rituals, having lost hope for his survival after a delay in search efforts. The incident occurs during Everest's busiest climbing season ever, with over 1,000 ascents in May, and raises concerns about overcrowding and the safety of less experienced climbers.
