Haiti – Conflict at the highest level of the State: the CEP and the Prime Minister relaunch dialogue 08.06.2026

Following a conflict over a decree deemed unconstitutional, Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé and the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) held a meeting on Sunday. This meeting, including government members, aimed to prepare for the upcoming elections by discussing the electoral decree of June 2nd and the conditions for organizing free, inclusive, transparent, and credible elections. The objective is to return to a regular electoral process after years of instability. The two institutions agreed to continue the dialogue to improve coordination, although no electoral calendar was specified. Security and logistical challenges persist for a return to constitutional order.
