Herdenking Februaristaking: 85 jaar geleden kwam Amsterdam in opstand tegen de razzia's 25.02.2026

Eighty-five years ago, on February 25, 1941, Amsterdam witnessed a unique spontaneous uprising against Nazi raids, with tens of thousands of residents laying down their tools in protest against the arrest of 425 Jewish men. This historic event, marked by silent trams, closed shops, and halted work across businesses and municipal services, was brutally suppressed by the German occupiers, resulting in nine deaths, 24 severe injuries, and numerous arrests. Today, the commemoration of this significant act of resistance is being held at the Dokwerker monument on Jonas Daniël Meijerplein, with AT5 broadcasting the event live starting at 16:45, featuring speeches by Jaïr Stranders, Jerry Afriyie, and Rutger Groot Wassink, and a poem by Brankele Frank. Additional commemorations are taking place at various other locations throughout Amsterdam and in Weesp.
