The ZDF has dismissed New York correspondent Nicola Albrecht following the use of an AI-generated video and outdated footage in its "Heute Journal" news program. The broadcaster cited severe violations of journalistic standards, stating that the AI material was used without proper journalistic justification or context, and a separate video scene was taken from a different event in 2022. ZDF's Editor-in-Chief, Bettina Schausten, emphasized the significant damage to the credibility of their reporting and announced measures to ensure adherence to high journalistic standards. The incident, which involved a report on children's fears regarding ICE arrests, was initially broadcast on "Mittagsmagazin" without issue, but the "Heute Journal" version on February 15th included the problematic elements.
