High Turnout, Orderly Voting and Extended Queues Define Ethiopia’s Election Day, IGAD Observers Report 03.06.2026

The IGAD Election Observation Mission reported that Ethiopia’s 7th General Election on June 3, 2026, was characterized by high turnout and orderly voting processes, with observers noting steady participation and extended queues, particularly in urban areas like Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa where voting was prolonged. Deployed across seven regions, IGAD’s 26 observers visited 208 polling stations, finding that they opened on time with adequate materials and personnel. Voting was described as orderly and structured, with smooth voter movement despite high numbers. Election officials and security personnel maintained a professional presence, and priority access was provided to vulnerable groups. Political party agents and domestic observers were also present, contributing to a peaceful and well-managed election day environment.
