On Friday, July 21, a large part of Hiiumaa was left without electricity due to a strong thunderstorm. According to the Elektrilevi outage map, 7,502 households were without power as of 21:30. According to Elektrilevi communications specialist Britt-Marii Punga, the problem likely occurred at the Leisi substation, which may have been struck by lightning. A crew headed to the substation to investigate, and according to the initial assessment, power was expected to be restored within approximately 30 minutes after inspecting the lines. Ultimately, the power supply on the island has been restored.
