Historical gem under Urpín had a weakness; a solution has arrived for nearly €200,000 07.07.2026

The Banská Bystrica City Council is undertaking an emergency renovation of the Barbican, a significant part of the City Castle's fortifications from 1512, which aims to repair the glazed roof currently in unsatisfactory technical condition. The municipality has allocated approximately €200,000 from the budget for this purpose, with the company DOMO Glass winning the tender with a bid of €197,000 including VAT. The work will be carried out in two stages: the first involves adjusting the drainage system and sealing concrete structures, while the second involves installing a new steel structure with glass roofing. The goal is to prevent water leakage into the areas housing the Thurzo – Fugger experiential exhibition. Mayor Ján Nosko emphasized that the project follows the renovation of Peterman's Tower and will ensure the preservation of the monument's architectural value. The work is expected to be completed by the end of November this year.
