HK Electric has announced a nearly 34% increase in its fuel charge for July, raising it to 41.9 HK cents per unit from 31.3 HK cents in June. This follows a double-digit increase last month, driven by what the utility described as a “significant rise” in global fuel prices linked to the ongoing war in the Middle East. The company warned on Thursday that the charge is expected to continue rising, though it did not specify by how much. HK Electric, which primarily supplies electricity to Hong Kong Island and Lamma Island, adjusts its fuel charge monthly to reflect changes in fuel costs.
