An intense cut-off low-pressure system has caused severe weather across South Africa since Tuesday, with widespread flooding, road closures, and hazardous conditions reported. The SA Weather Service issued an Orange Level 6 warning for severe thunderstorms and disruptive rainfall, particularly impacting the eastern Western Cape and south-western Eastern Cape until Thursday. The Eastern Cape has seen multiple road closures due to flooding, including the N2 towards John Tallant in Nelson Mandela Bay. Snowfall has been reported in high-lying areas. Tragically, at least three people have died in flood-related incidents, including a 12-year-old girl in the North West. Mpumalanga's Nkomazi region experienced widespread damage, with over 80 houses affected. The Garden Route District Municipality has closed Meiringspoort and Swartberg Pass due to heavy rainfall exceeding 100mm in some areas.
