In response to the city's deadliest fire in decades, Hong Kong's Competition Commission has revised tender clauses to mandate bidders make a statutory declaration that they have not engaged in collusion on a project. Senior Counsel Jat Sew-tong, the commission's chairman, announced this move on Thursday, alongside a proposal to increase the maximum penalty for the proposed criminal offence of bid-rigging from seven to 10 years. These changes aim to strengthen enforcement and deterrence against anti-competitive practices in public tenders.
