A subdivided unit (one split into three) located at 36 Cheung Sha Wan Road in Sham Shui Po received certification from the Housing Bureau late last month, becoming the first qualified 'Simple Room' in Hong Kong. The unit is managed and was renovated by Chan Hin-hei, Chairman of the Simple Room Operators Association, who stated that the conversion cost was approximately 150,000 HKD, aligning with the average reference price provided by the government. The renovation work included the installation of fire doors, smoke detectors, independent water and electricity meters, and improved ventilation facilities; however, the layout remains unchanged as a one-split-into-three configuration. Each simple room measures no less than 8 square meters and features a bright window, although the bathrooms remain 'black toilets' (windowless), now equipped with louvered doors, exhaust fans, and toilet vent pipes.
