Housing Institute calls for "greater rigor" from politicians after PS leader alleges electoralism 03.07.2026

The Institute for Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU) has called for greater rigor from politicians, responding to accusations from the PS Secretary-General, José Luís Carneiro, regarding alleged electoralism concerning the failure to deliver move-in-ready homes. Carneiro visited 10 houses in Azinheira de Barros, Grândola, funded by the PRR, claiming they had been ready for two years. The IHRU clarified that these 19 homes, managed by the Parish Council, are intended for emergency and temporary accommodation, not permanent housing, and are subject to certification by Social Security and a management entity. The IHRU also clarified that it has paid 91% of the funding, refuting claims of a lack of definition and stating that the approval of a new application depends on the withdrawal of previous funding. The Secretary of State for Social Action and Inclusion reiterated that the houses have not been delivered due to the lack of a management entity and criticized the disclosure of the locations of houses intended for victims of domestic violence.
