How a son rescued his father from the rubble of Venezuela’s earthquakes 15h ago

On the evening of June 24, a catastrophic 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck the coastline of La Guaira, Venezuela, followed immediately by an even more powerful tremor. The seismic activity caused the eleven-storey Ritasol Palace in the seaside suburb of Caraballeda to collapse entirely. Among those caught in the disaster was 46-year-old car mechanic Jose Garcia, who was living on the second floor with his wife and two sons when the building fell. Garcia and his two children, 7-year-old Diego and 12-year-old Santiago, became trapped beneath the heavy concrete and glass rubble in the building's basement. This disaster is noted as Venezuela's deadliest earthquake in over a century. Despite the terrifying circumstances of being buried alive, Garcia and his sons faced a desperate struggle for survival amidst the ruins of their former home.
