NHS England has announced a new strategy to combat sepsis, a life-threatening condition that contributes to approximately 48,000 deaths annually in the UK. The plan includes providing wearable technology, such as watches, bracelets, or mobile phone apps, to patients at high risk of sepsis. These devices will continuously monitor vital signs like blood pressure and heart rate, alerting healthcare providers if a patient's condition deteriorates, enabling faster testing and treatment. Sepsis directly causes 4,000 deaths each year in England, and NHS England believes a quarter of these are preventable through improved care.
