Hundreds arrested and dozens of police injured after Champions League riots in France 31.05.2026

Following Paris St-Germain's Champions League final victory over Arsenal, widespread riots erupted across France, resulting in 219 injuries, including 57 police officers, and 780 arrests. The violence disrupted public transport in Paris, where thousands of officers were deployed. Celebrations, including a parade and a reception with President Emmanuel Macron, were overshadowed by incidents such as burning vehicles, shopfront damage, and the deployment of tear gas. Authorities reported 480 arrests in Paris alone, with charges ranging from attacks on officers to property damage. A death occurred due to an accident on the Paris ring road, with circumstances still under investigation. The Interior Minister stated that while most celebrations were peaceful, some individuals not associated with the club instigated disturbances, prompting a firm police response.
