Chancellor Rachel Reeves has announced that hundreds of UK petrol stations are under investigation for failing to report live price changes to Fuel Finder, a government-run scheme managed alongside technology company VE3. Since February 2, all UK forecourts have been legally required to update the database within thirty minutes to increase market transparency. However, Press Association analysis reveals significant non-compliance; 1,751 sites have not updated prices in over a week, and 96 have failed to do so for over a month. The Competition and Markets Authority has already issued hundreds of warning letters to non-compliant businesses and may issue fines if reporting does not improve. The scheme, supported by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, aims to save motorists an average of £40 annually by fostering competition among retailers.
