Huw Edwards, the former BBC newsreader who admitted to accessing 41 images of child sexual abuse in 2024, has faced sharp criticism for entering the National Eisteddfod's poetry competition under the pseudonym "Y Gelyn" (The Enemy). Edwards received a six-month suspended sentence for the offences, which included seven images of the most serious type. Actress Sera Cracroft, a survivor of child sexual abuse best known for her role in Welsh soap opera Pobol y Cwm, said that had Edwards won, "the image of him being crowned in front of the nation is hurtful to survivors." She expressed disappointment that he would attempt such a public act so soon after his conviction, adding, "I don't think [his mental health support] is working for him."
