“I don't see any change”: citizens express opinions on the extension of the state of emergency in Lima and Callao 07.07.2026

The constitutional province of Callao and Metropolitan Lima are facing a new 60-day extension of the state of emergency, a measure that took effect on June 28. The primary objective of this government provision, led by the administration of José María Balcázar, is to mitigate the rising rates of citizen insecurity in the region. However, following a field report by RPP, the majority of citizens consulted expressed skepticism, noting that they do not perceive real changes in their daily security. Residents reported that murders, extortion, and constant robberies persist, especially during commuting hours. Additionally, citizens criticized the lack of constant police patrolling in critical areas and suggested that the Armed Forces should conduct nighttime patrols to ensure greater order and protection.
